Coroner's Office Identifies Body Recovered From Napa River

Dental records were used to identify the badly decomposed body, the Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office said.

NAPA, CA — The Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office used dental records to identify a body recovered last week from the Napa River.

The badly decomposed body has been identified as that of Ismael Vargas, a 23-year-old Napa transient, according to Sheriff's Office Spokesman Henry Wofford.

The coroner's office has not been able to determine how long Vargas was deceased, Wofford told Patch.

Vargas's body was spotted by a kayaker late Wednesday afternoon on the east side of the Napa River, a few hundred yards north of the Kennedy Park boat launch, the Napa Police Department police wrote in a report.

With the assistance of the Napa County Sheriff's Office drone team, boat team and dive team, the body was located and removed, police stated in the report.
