County Fire Continues To Burn For 8th Straight Day

The fire in Yolo and Napa counties has destroyed 10 structures and 88,000 acres.

YOLO COUNTY, CA -- Firefighters gained containment on the County Fire on Saturday, seven days after the blaze sparked in Yolo County and spread to Napa County. As of Saturday evening, the fast-growing wildfire burned 88,300 acres and was 55 percent contained.

The fire, one of many to spark amid a Red Flag Warning in California, destroyed 10 structures and prompt the evacuation of several neighborhoods.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered for:

  • West of State Highway 16, to Berryessa Knoxville Road, South of Old County Road 40, and North of County Road 53
  • West of State Highway 16 to the Yolo/ Lake County Line, North of County Road 40, and South of the Yolo County line

Road closures were issued for:

  • Berryessa Knoxville Road, from the Pope Creek Bridge to the Napa/Lake County line
  • State Highway 16 has been closed between State Highway 20 and Rumsey Hall

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Cal Fire officials expect full containment of the County Fire by July 12.

Elsewhere in the region, wildfires sparked in San Diego County, including Camp Pendleton, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents. A wildfire also sparked along the California-Oregon border, killing one person.
