NAPA, CA — Ristorante Allegria is holding a food giveaway this Mother's Day to support Napans who've been left unemployed and in need by the coronavirus crisis. From 10 a.m. until noon Sunday, the restaurant at 1026 First St. in downtown Napa, is giving out fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs.

The giveaway is on a first-come, first-served basis, according to Baris Yildiz, who co-owns Ristorante Allegria with his brother, Rodi Yildiz.

The brothers, who opened the Napa restaurant 18 years ago, are also offering free delivery to the elderly and to mobile home parks during the stay-at-home order, Baris told Patch.

Baris said Ristorante Allegria also has been giving customers a 30-percent discount on all food and wine to-go and delivery orders ever since the start in March of the coronavirus-related public health orders — when the state of California and Napa County shuttered nonessential businesses, banned eat-in restaurant services and forbade gatherings of more than 10 people.

"Since day one, since the very beginning, we have been giving that 30-percent off," Baris said.

Although the eatery had to let go of its wait staff, Ristorante Allegria has remained open for lunch and dinner takeout orders, enabling the brothers to keep their kitchen staff employed. They've also been able to bring back a few front-of-the-house employees to help with takeout.

Business has been slow at lunchtime, with dinners a bit busier, Baris said.

"We know that everyone is going through a tough time," Ristorante Allegria says on its website. "We would like give back to the community during this time."

For Mother's Day, the restaurant that specializes in Italian-influenced California cuisine is planning a special menu (see below).
