Earthquake In Napa County Felt Across Bay Area

The early-morning temblor near Angwin and St. Helena preceded a swarm of quakes Thursday in Northern California and the Central Valley.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — A 3.6-magnitude earthquake rattled Napa County early Thursday morning and was felt across much of the Bay Area.

The quake hit at 12:36 a.m. and was centered 7 miles east and south of Angwin and 8 miles west of Lake Berryessa at a depth of 6.21 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was felt strongly in St. Helena, which is just over 8 miles from the epicenter.

Folks across the North Bay and into the East Bay and South Bay areas also reported experiencing some shaking, including in Napa, Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Vacaville, Vallejo, Martinez, Berkeley, Alameda, San Ramon, San Francisco and Los Banos, according to responses submitted to the USGS.

The early-morning temblor preceded a swarm of earthquakes Thursday afternoon in Northern California and the Central Valley, the largest of which was a 6.0-magnitude that struck at 3:49 p.m. along the Nevada-California border in Antelope Valley, California, around 39 miles southeast of South Lake Tahoe.
