A&W Restaurants is contining its annual tradition of marking "National Root Beer Float Day" on Tuesday, Aug. 6 with giveaways of its signature treat made with A&W Root Beer and creamy vanilla soft serve.
Guests can stop by the St. Helena locale or any North Bay A&W for a free small Root Beer Float — one per person — from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., while supplies last and with no purchase necessary.

The company also will be taking donations for the nationwide non-profit DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
A&W dates to 1919 when Roy W. Allen opened his first root beer stand in Lodi, to serve his refreshing concoction during a parade honoring veterans returning from World War I, according to the company.
