Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Highway 29 North Of Rutherford: CHP

A North Carolina man was fatally struck when he walked into the southbound lane of SR-29 between Rutherford Road and Zinfandel Lane.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — A North Carolina man died after two vehicles struck him Monday night on state Highway 29 north of Rutherford, the California Highway Patrol said. The 25-year-old Raleigh man's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, Napa County sheriff's spokesman Henry Wofford said.

The pedestrian walked into the southbound lane of state Highway 29 south of Mee Lane in unincorporated Napa County around 9 p.m., the CHP said.

He was struck by a 2003 Toyota sedan driven by a Winters woman and a Honda sedan driven by a Napa woman and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:15 p.m., the CHP said.

Investigators do not know if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collisions, which closed Highway 29 in both directions between Rutherford Road and Zinfandel Lane for about 90 minutes.
