NAPA, CA –Sepp Straka surged ahead Thursday in the final holes with birdies to take the lead of the first round of the Safeway Open PGA tournament at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.

As several spectators left the course, heading for the Sammy Hagar concert, Straka, of Athens, GA, leaped ahead of then-leader Chase Wright, who finished with 8-under, and Phil Mickelson, who came on strong with a 7-under for the day.
