SoCal Man Jailed In Napa County For Suspected Sex With Minor: NPD

Napa police detectives traveled to Ventura County to arrest Sean Carey, 25, following a months-long investigation.

NAPA, CA — A Southern California man is accused of sexually assaulting a Napa teen after communicating with the minor over social media, the Napa Police Department said.

The investigation into Sean William Carey, 25, of Newbury Park, began in March when the juvenile victim's parents discovered he/she was using a social media application to covertly communicate with an adult, Napa police Lt. Chase Haag said Friday in a news release.

"The messages included sexually explicit photographs exchanged of the victim and Carey," Haag said.

Napa Police Department School Resource Officer Darlene Elia and Napa County Youth Services Bureau Social Worker Toni McIntosh interviewed the victim and as the investigation continued, they learned Carey traveled to Napa from his home in the Southern California city for the purpose of having sex with the victim, police said.

"Carey took the victim to a local hotel, where multiple sex acts occurred," Haag said.

Napa police obtained warrants to arrest Carey and search his house in Newbury Park, and on Thursday, Napa police detectives went to Newbury Park.

Ventura County sheriff’s detectives and regional Southern California High Tech Crimes Task Force investigators helped serve the search warrant, and multiple items of digital evidence were collected, Haag said.

Detectives arrested Carey and brought him back to Napa where he was booked into jail on suspicion of multiple child sex assault offenses, including sodomy of a person younger than 16, possession of child pornography, matter sent with the intention of seducing of a minor, meeting with a minor for sexual contact and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense.

Carey remained behind bars Friday in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Napa police detectives were working alongside Ventura County detectives and Southern California HTTF investigators to process additional evidence and determine whether there may be more victims.

"Sexual predators will travel great distances to meet with a victim for the purpose of sexual contact," Haag said. "Parents are reminded to monitor their children’s online activity as there are multiple applications designed to conceal their interactions with strangers."
