A 16-year-old boy was hurt Sunday in Napa by a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.

Police said the call came in at 11:35 a.m. to report a possible drive-by shooting in the Browns Valley area of west Napa.
When officers first arrived, they contacted a 16-year-old male who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the right leg.
The teen told the officers that he was the victim of a drive-by shooting.
Upon further investigation, the officers learned that the teen was accidentally shot in the leg by a 16-year-old acquaintance while they were handling a .22-caliber rifle in the 100 block of Karen Drive in Napa.

The 16-year-old teen who allegedly shot the gun was taken into custody for allegedly discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and altered firearm identification markings.
The firearm has been recovered by police.
The incident is under further investigation.
