Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Car In Van Nuys

The driver stopped to call for help and render assistance, police said.

VAN NUYS, CA — A bicycle rider died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday in Van Nuys, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m. at Kester Avenue and Victory Boulevard, Investigator Robert Powers of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division said.

The vehicle was westbound on Kester Avenue entering the intersection at Victory Boulevard with a green light. A man believed to be in his 40s eastbound on the bicycle, crossing the intersection illegally when he was struck, Powers said.

Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the investigator said.

The motorist, whose identity was withheld, obeyed the law by rendering assistance, and was released from the scene without citation.
