Burbank Airport Project: Councilman Says FAA Extension Not Enough

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Councilman Paul Krekorian said the Federal Aviation Administration is still not allowing enough time for public comment on the construction of a new terminal at Hollywood Burbank Airport. Krekorian previously asked the FAA for a 75-day extension, but says the agency only allowed him an additional 21 days.

Krekorian argued that Valley residents deal with extensive aircraft noise and that FAA re-routes have caused many plans to fly directly over area homes.

"The FAA's extension falls far short of what would be an appropriate amount of time for a project of this magnitude," Krekorian said. "Regrettably, the FAA has again missed an opportunity to demonstrate good faith to the people of the San Fernando Valley who suffer the consequences of the agency's decisions."

City Attorney Mike Feuer echoed Krekorian's sentiments, and urged nearby residents to voice their opinions as soon as possible.

"Whether it's changing flight patterns or building a new 14-gate terminal, what happens at Burbank Airport has huge implications for valley residents' quality of life," Feuer said. "We pushed the FAA for more days, but got just 21. So time is short, and I encourage every resident who cares about this issue to weigh in while you can. This is a major project and it's imperative that the FAA hear from you."

Residents have until October 27 to comment on the proposed terminal.
