NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA —Local utility boxes are in need of eye-popping art. The city put out a call for artists in the area to transform utility boxes from eyesores to attractions, and is offering $600 for artists chosen to contribute. Councilmember Paul Krekorian, Muralism.org and LA City Department of Cultural Affairs are sponsoring the project.

A total of 15 utility boxes across North Hollywood are available to be painted. Locations include Vineland Boulevard / Burbank Boulevard and Lankershim / Hatteras Boulevard. The theme for the boxes is "movement," and is up to interpretation by the artist.

The best ideas will showcase the identity of the community, promote unity, and drive a "modern aesthetic." Designs cannot promote violence, resemble any kind of traffic signal, or infringe upon a registered copyright or trademark.
