Emmys Announce Plans To Spread Awards Show Across Six Nights

Events will begin on September 14, leading up to the main event on September 20.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — The presentation of this year's Primetime Emmy Awards will be spread over six nights, with a series of virtual Creative Arts ceremonies scheduled leading up to the main Emmy event on Sept. 20, the Television Academy announced Thursday.

According to the academy, the awards presentations will begin with four straight nights of online events streamed on Emmys.com beginning Sept. 14. The nightly events will each be held at 5 p.m.

The Sept. 14 event will feature the presentation of awards in reality and nonfiction categories, followed the next night by the awards in variety categories, then scripted programming awards on Sept. 16 and 17.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, a ceremony will be televised on FXX, and feature "an eclectic mix of awards across all genres," according to the academy.

The main Emmy ceremony, during which the top awards will be presented, including best drama and comedy series and top acting honors, will be broadcast at 5 p.m. Sept. 20 on ABC, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting.
