LA Kings' Announcer to Undergo Heart Bypass Surgery

Hall of Fame hockey broadcaster Bob Miller, who is in his 43rd season as the Los Angeles Kings’ play-by-play announcer, will be taking a leave of absence so he can undergo heart bypass surgery, the team announced today.

A date for the surgery has not yet been set, so it’s unclear when he’ll return to the broadcast booth.

“It is unfortunate that I have to miss Kings telecasts but I have to get this taken care of as soon as possible,” Miller said in a statement released by the team. “I know the telecasts will be in good hands and I hope to return to the TV booth as soon as my health allows.”

Kings radio broadcaster Nick Nickson will replace Miller on broadcasts, working alongside analyst Jim Fox. Jon Rosen will call the games on the radio side, with analyst Daryl Evans, according to the team.

“Like all Kings fans we wish bob a safe and speedy recovery,” Kings President for Business Operations Luc Robitaille said. “We look forward to hearing his familiar voice on our broadcasts again real soon, but it is important that Bob take his time to recover as his health is the top priority.”
