Man Kidnaps Ex-Girlfriend And Kills Bystander, Remains At-Large

Police say the suspect fatally shot a man who tried to break up an argument between him and his ex-girlfriend. Then, he kidnapped her.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A man was fatally shot while trying to breakup an argument between another man and his ex-girlfriend Sunday, with the suspect then kidnapping the ex-girlfriend and fleeing the scene.

The incident was reported around 2:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the 11300 block of Hatteras Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police say they received a radio call of a shooting investigation in the area when they responded to the scene.

An initial investigation revealed the primary suspect was in an argument with his ex-girlfriend. When another man tried to intervene, the suspect shot him, and then forced the woman into a car and fled the scene.

The fatal shooting victim was identified as Roberto Fletes, a 42 year old man from North Hollywood. The kidnapping victim was identified as 31-year-old Jenny Marie Downs.

LAPD described the first suspect as Shane Winfield Rayment, a 37-year-old white man with blond hair and blue eyes, standing about 6'1" and 235 pounds. Police said the man was with four other suspects at the time of the crime.

The second suspect was described as a 30-year-old white man with long blond hair and blue eyes, standing 5'9" and weighing about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

The three other suspects were described only as white women. All suspects fled the scene in a green truck.
