Native Americans join celebration at Placerita Canyon Nature Center Saturday, May 9
"One Family, One World" is the theme of this year's annual open house, and indigenous people will take part in education and celebration
Children of all ages are welcome to the annual Placerita Canyon Nature Center Open House, taking place on Saturday, May 9 from 10 AM to 3 PM. A fun and educational event, the Center is home to a number of wild animal species who make public appearances throughout the day, a recently refurbished museum, learning center, historical features, hiking trails and nature walks, and no shortage of things for kids to do.
The theme of this year’s gathering, “One Family, One World” focuses on our interconnectedness, and Placerita Canyon Nature Center volunteer Deb Clem invited the Native American and environmental non profit association Redbird to help share the indigenous viewpoint of connectivity...in the Lakota language, Mitakuye Oyasin, or, all my relations (we are all related).
Katianna Warren, Caitlyn Ashmore, Kaelene Ashmore, Cydnee Ashmore and Janet Snyder of the Dine’ Nation, Michael Runningwind of the Apache Nation, and Kat High of the Hupa Nation will be among the speakers, dancers and storytellers present, along with multi-ethnic members of the native community Chrissy Shoaf, Cheri Howlett and Corina Roberts. Other community members are welcome to come support and take part in the celebration.
