New Airline Flies Maiden Fight Out Of Hollywood Burbank Airport
Avelo Airlines, which offers flights starting at $19, is the first mainline airline to launch in the U.S. in almost 15 years.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — The first new mainline airline to launch in the United States in almost 15 years flew it's maiden flight Wednesday out of Hollywood Burbank Airport. Avelo Airlines departed around 10:30 a.m. and landed at the Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa at around 11:55 a.m.
"Today's first flight represents far more than a 90-minute journey from LA's iconic Hollywood Burbank Airport to the Sonoma County Airport in the heart of California wine country -- we're embarking on a new era of choice, convenience and everyday low fares," Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said.
Flights begin at $19, with optional add-ons for carry-on bags, checked bags, pets and priority boarding. Avelo will mostly operate out of smaller airports using three Boeing 737-800 airplanes.

“We are making flying more affordable and convenient by taking the greatest efficiencies we can find in the industry and sharing the savings with our Customers in the form of surprisingly low fares,” said Avelo’s Founder, Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy. “Combine that with operating bases at many of the nation’s most convenient airports, infused with a culture of caring, and you have a different and better kind of airline that our Customers will love to fly, our Crewmembers are proud to work for and our shareholders are grateful they invested in.”
The airline will base service at BUR and has hired about 150 crewmembers, making it the largest employer at the airport. The company was founded by CEO Andrew Levy, who formerly served as president of Allegiant Air and CFO of United Airlines.
