No Surprise: North Hollywood High School Wins LADWP Science Bowl
The school has won the regional tournament 22 times in the last 24 years.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Students from North Hollywood High School took home the first place trophy in the 29th annual Science Bowl Regional Competition, held by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The school took home the Melinda Rho Memorial Trophy, named after the former LADWP Manager of Regulatory Affairs who passed away in 2019 and was a longtime Science Bowl advocate.
Team members will receive a $1,000 scholarship, while the North Hollywood High School earned a $3,000 grant for its science department. LADWP said the students showed "an outstanding grasp of advanced science, math and technology concepts," earning them a first place bid.
Winning the regional Science Bowl has become something of an annual tradition for the Huskies. The school has won the tournament 22 of the past 24 years, advancing to the national Science Bowl held by the U.S. Department of Energy. At the national level, their last victory was in 2001.

For the first time, the Science Bowl was held over Zoom rather than in-person. Students were quizzed in a "game show atmosphere" involving timed toss-up questions that tested teamwork and science-related knowledge.
