NoHo Home Alliance Launches 'New Year, New Day' Campaign
The organization plans to open their doors to people experiencing homelessness on Friday, raising their total to three days a week.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — The NoHo Home Alliance is asking for your help as they work to establish a third day of services to help residents experiencing homelessness.
Currently, NoHo Home opens their doors on Mondays and Wednesdays to offer food, showers, medical care and more. As the year comes to a close, however, they're launching the "New Year, New Day" campaign, a fundraising effort to help them serve the community every Friday as well.
The organization has seen a recent surge in need as the coronavirus continues to tear through Los Angeles. Executive Director Stephanie Jaeger touched on what she's heard from unhoused residents about why they rely on NoHo Home.

"I think the widespread nature of Covid-19 has also closed down some resources in the city," she said. "That's what some of our guests are telling us. They're coming out from the valley and the city. The need is definitely there."
At the start of the year, the organization actually offered three days of services at a different location, but had to close the operation once the pandemic hit as many of the volunteers were immunocompromised. Now that they've found a rhythm at St. Matthew's Lutheran, Jaeger says it's time to expand in order to meet the need of the unhoused community.

"Our goal is not just to hand out food and make a mess, it's to build relationships that will make it possible for us to connect people with the services they need," she said. "We work really closely with our lead agency, L.A. Family Housing, Northeast Valley Health Corporation, and others."

Those with the ability to give can go to the website, where all donations are accepted and appreciated. For those looking for a deeper connection, the organization is also looking for Friday volunteers able to directly serve people experiencing homelessness.
Jaeger said many volunteers have told her how rewarding the experience has been for them, allowing them to move beyond being a bystander in one of the biggest issues affecting Los Angeles.
"One of our volunteers described it as going to summer camp," she said. "You're with friends, you're doing things together, it has a very profound, joyful feeling."
