NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A man who police say shot and killed another man who tried to breakup his argument with his ex-girlfriend, before then kidnapping the woman, was arrested in Riverside County Tuesday evening.

Shane Winfield Rayment was arrested shortly after 5 p.m. by Hemet Police Department during a felony traffic stop, Los Angeles Police Department said. The kidnapping victim, Jenny Downes, was in the car at the time.

Police said Downes was "battered and bruised," but alive with non-life threatening injuries. LAPD officers went to Hement to interview Rayment and take Downes home, who agreed to seek medical care should her injuries worsen.

The shooting and kidnapping incident was reported around 2:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the 11300 block of Hatteras Street. The victim was later identified as Roberto Fletes, a 42 year old man from North Hollywood, who died at a hospital Sunday.

An initial investigation revealed Rayment was in an argument with his ex-girlfriend. When Fletes tried to intervene, Rayment shot him, and then forced the woman into a car and fled the scene.
