North Hollywood Restaurant Burglarized By Masked Thief

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A thief broke into Filipino restaurant Tatang on Thursday and stole its cash register, the restaurant posted on Instagram.
The North Hollywood restaurant posted surveillance video of the break-in, which showed a masked person shattering the business's front door and entering the eatery. The person briefly looked around the restaurant before heading behind a counter and grabbing the cash register.
"We are telling ourselves that it could be worse ... also, very glad no one on the team got hurt," the restaurant’s post said.

Nothing else of value was stolen from the business, J.R. Martin, the restaurant’s chef and owner, told the Asian Journal. He said it's the first time the 3-year-old restaurant was broken into.
The cost of the register and the amount of money inside "wasn't a crazy amount of cash," Martin told the publication.

The restaurant resumed service later that evening, posting that the incident "won't stop us." Like other restaurants, Tatang has struggled during the pandemic and relies primarily on takeout orders, with in-person dining under restrictions.
Los Angeles County is poised to allow limited indoor dining to resume as soon as Sunday, with vaccinations against the coronavirus on the rise, health officials said.
“Many Filipino American establishments do need our support and patronage," Martin told the Asian Journal. "A lot of businesses are struggling, us included, and whatever we can do to help keep our community, culture and food represented is definitely worth maintaining.”
Tatang is located at 10892 Oxnard St. and is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
