Overnight Closures On I-5 Freeway Announced Near North Hollywood

Construction crews will lift 90 foot girders above the freeway for a new carpool bridge and interchange.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — All southbound lanes on I-5 will be closed overnight for about three weeks in Burbank while crews work to construct a bridge. Closures will be in effect between Empire Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard from 11:59 p.m. through 4 a.m. until June 19.

The California Department of Transportation said closures may start earlier and end later depending on traffic volume. Some ramps in the area also will be closed, with detours posted, as early as 9 p.m. and not reopening until 6 a.m.

Drivers are advised to use the southbound 405 as a detour, and can also use the southbound 170 freeway.

During construction, crews plan to lift 90-foot girders above the freeway at Burbank Boulevard, where a bridge and interchange are being constructed for a carpool lanes project by Caltrans, Metro and the city of Burbank. The new bridge is expected to open for traffic before the end of 2021.
