Pillai Joins the Production of 'Flawed'

Veteran sound editor Suraj Pillai is joining the production of director Nijo Sebastian's highly narrated upcoming film “Flawed.”

“I knew it would be a challenge to work on a project that had very little dialogue,” Pillai said. “It was a great adventure and thrill ride to work on a project where you have to tap your creativity and imagination to tell a story with sound!”

Starring Jelena Stojanovic, “Flawed” tells the compelling story of broken relationships and the loneliness that follows, using dark imagery and narration to move the story forward.

“Creating sounds to help develop this atmosphere of loneliness and sorrow without impeding the narration is not easy,” Pillai said. “The story is every compelling with a lot of different nuances so the ambient sounds are a part of the emotional tone of the film.”

Known for his technical expertise, Pillai has worked on a number of projects since arriving from India two years ago, including most recently the films “Attraction,” and the documentary “Captain Virat.”

His dedication to sound and sound effects goes back to his youth in India when he took up the keyboard and violin and becoming a sought after live performer. His efforts to record his music and improve upon it, led him to a fascination for recording technology.

“I am very thankful to be a part of a very creative community that entertains people around the world,” Pillai said. “I was born in a small town in India and no one there would have thought this young kid would be working in Hollywood years later.”

Meanwhile, Pillai’s passion for music continues as he works on his first pop music album which he hopes to release later this year.
