Saints Fans Sue To Overturn Rams' Playoff Berth
Saints fans are taking the NFL to court, claiming a controversial decision during the Rams' victory over the Saints should be reviewed.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Saints fans crying foul sued the National Football League and its commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday, hoping to overturn Sunday’s victory that gave the Los Angeles Rams a Super Bowl berth.
The lawsuit, brought by a pair of New Orleans Saints season ticket holders in a Louisiana state court, seeks to force the league to review a controversial non-call in the Rams 26-23 overtime victory. For many Saints fans, the Rams were able to come from behind and beat the Saints because officials failed to call pass interference on Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman, who knocked over Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis late in regulation. Lewis didn’t catch the pass, and the Saints had to go for a field goal, giving the Rams just enough time to tie the game.

According to Reuters, the lawsuit filed by Tommy Badeaux and Candis Lambert claims, the non-call constitutes a “calamity” giving Goodell the authority to order a review because it was “so extraordinarily unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football that such action has a major effect on the result of the game.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Saints had not formally complained to the league, and the Rams are slated to face the New England Patriots in Atlanta for the Super Bowl on Feb. 3.

The controversial game has continued to stir uproar and debate among football aficionados.
Rams fans largely scoff at the notion that their team’s victory was illegitimate with many pointing to another play where officials failed to penalize the Saints when linebacker A.J. Klein grabbed Rams quarterback Jared Goff by the face-mask.

However, the outcome of the game seems unlikely to be overturned by the courts simply because it’s so rare for judges or league officials to intervene in games after-the-fact. One notable exception occurred in 1983, baseball’s American League president invalidated a New York Yankees win against the Kansas City Royals, ordering the game restarted, Reuters reported.
