Voting Machine Issues Reported Throughout Los Angeles County
Hours after the polling places opened, ProPublica received several tips of voting problems in the region.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- About a dozen voters in Los Angeles County told ProPublica's Electionland project that they experienced issues Tuesday morning while voting, just hours after polling places opened.
The project, which Patch is a partner of, monitors voting problems throughout the country.
Some of the problems reported to Electionland include machines not working at polling places in Long Beach, North Hollywood and Pasadena. Other voters said polling places were understaffed and worried that their ballots may not be counted.

In Monrovia, voters reported that ballots were "loosely piled" and were concerned that some ballots may be misplaced.
The unverified problems were also shared on Twitter.

Brenda Duran, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Office, said a command center is addressing any issues reported at polling places as they come in.
"The command center has been working since 7 a.m. so most of the issues brought to our attention have been resolved," Duran said.
Duran also stressed that ballot readers at the polling places do not count votes. Rather, the machines are used to determine if there are any issues with each ballot and votes are counted when ballots are received at the Registrar's headquarters. She pointed voters to a video created by the office about how ballot readers are used.
During the primary election, the Registrar received criticism after voters reported that their names were missing from the roster of eligible voters. At the time, Registrar Dean Logan said the problem was a "random issue with the print job."
Los Angeles County voters who may experience problems can call the Registrar's command center at 1-800-815-2666.
California voters who may experience problems while voting can report it to the California Secretary of State at 1-800-345-VOTE (8683).
If you had trouble voting, or if you saw something you want to tell Electionland about, here’s how.
Polling location at Lanark Park in Canoga Park has a broken ballot machine. Took forever to reboot and still wouldn’t work and accept ballots. Disappointed but will accept that the ballots will eventually be counted. @LACountyRRCC

@LACountyRRCC The polling place at 958 Lincoln Blvd in Santa Monica never received their voters' roster and everyone is voting provisionally as of an hour ago. I wanted to let you know!! Everyone there is pretty upset.

My polling location in Hollywood at the Presbyterian church had 3/4 people working and about 6 booths. The machine that the ballots are fed into wasn’t working so they threw my ballot in a plastic tub. RIDICULOUS!! JUST AN FYI! STAY IN LINE! https://t.co/aTQRggFVGi
