Big Pour Under Way at City Office Site

Conga line of cement mixers pull up as new administrative building gets its concrete garage floor.

Been on Machin Avenue in downtown Novato lately? These construction workers are flooring it.

The contractors building a new home for city of Novato employees tip-toed between the rebar and poured concrete for the garage floor on Tuesday. According to city officials, 170 cubic yards of concrete were pumped down to the floor and smoothed out to form a 12-inch-thick slab covering the double mat of reinforcing steel.

Crews will move to the east end of the site (closer to Sherman Avenue) and prepare the area for a second slab pour, tentatively scheduled for Jan. 31.

The projected construction completion date is still set for September 2013, and to date, costs are below budget, according to city staff.
