Holiday Happenings in Novato

Residents and visitors can get into the spirit of the season at these holiday events.

NOVATO, CA -- The holiday season is here, and the City of Novato is getting into the spirit by giving residents and visitors some options to enjoy, including a crafts faire, community tree lighting and a SMART train tour.

Here are some of the upcoming events in the city:

A Holiday Crafts Faire, from 6 to 9 pm Friday, Dec. 2 and 10 am to 4 pm Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Margaret Todd Senior Center, 1560 Hill Road. More than 55 artisans are expected to sell handmade crafts including jewelry, ceramics, specialty foods, wreaths, ornaments, bath and body products and more.

There will be entertainment throughout the event, plus a raffle and food will be available. The event's presented by the City of Novato Parks, Recreation and Community Services department and is co-sponsored by the Novato Senior Citizens Club and the Novato Garden Club. Admission is free.

Novato's Annual Community Tree Lighting is scheduled 4 to 8 pm Saturday, Dec. 3 at Novato City Hall, 901 Sherman Avenue. Special holiday performances, food and hot drinks are planned at this annual holiday kick-off event in downtown Novato.

Festivities begin at 4 pm, with the tree lighting ceremony planned for about 5:30 pm.

Breakfast with Santa is planned for 9 am to noon Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Margaret Todd Senior Center. Attendees can enjoy a festive pancake breakfast with Santa and fun-filled activities for the kids. Make sure to bring a camera to take a photo with Santa. Cost is $10 for ages 6 to adult. Children 5 and under are free.

Registration is open at novatofun.org by using code 20923. Registration is also available at the Margaret Todd Senior Center, 1560 Hill Road, or Novato Gymnastics Center, 950 Seventh St.

And from 1 pm to 2:30 pm Saturday, Dec. 10 is the SMART Holiday Express event at the Novato San Marin Station. Anyone bringing an unwrapped toy or gift card to donate to the Novato Youth Center or Novato Human Needs Center can receive a free SMART train tour.
