Marin County Employees Catch The Spirit Of Giving
Marin County employees donated nearly $100K in November to worthy charities and more than $1 million since 2007.
SAN RAFAEL, CA – Despite the economic anxiety and stress of this pandemic holiday season, Marin County employees, once again, opened their hearts and their pocketbooks for worthy causes.
County employees donated $98,000 to charities this holiday season through payroll deductions, surpassing the $1 million mark in all-time giving since the county began the Marin County Employees Combined Charities Campaign in 2007.
In November, county employees tapped into their spirit of giving with biweekly paycheck deductions or one-time donations to nonprofit federations. This year, the federations included America’s Best Local Charities, Community Health Charities, EarthShare California, Global Impact, and United Way Bay Area as well as additional charities selected by employees.

“County employees’ giving spirit increased this year, despite uncertainty caused by the pandemic and other challenges,” said Liza Massey, Chief Information Officer, the Heart of Marin Countywide Campaign Coordinator. “Pledges and donations surpassed our goal and payroll deductions, the easiest and most effective way to give, increased by over 9%.”
There are 22 departments in the county, and three stood out for their giving this year. The County Counsel’s Office had the highest level of employee participation while the Information Services and Technology department raised the most funds. And it was the Public Works employees who really stretched their generosity, recording the largest increase in the dollar amount of donations and the most new donors.
