Novato High Cheer Team Wins at Regionals
The Novato High varsity cheer and dance team won first place in its division at Regionals competition Sunday at American Canyon High School.
The Novato High varsity cheer and dance team captured first place in its division at the United Spirit Association Regionals competition Sunday, Nov. 15, in American Canyon.
The Hornets’ junior varsity team placed second in its division. As a result of their performances, both teams qualified for the USA Nationals competition in March in Anaheim.
Novato varsity cheer coach Patti Nave said the team triumphed despite four members being forced to cope with minor stress injuries. The performance “proved that hard work, dedication, choreography and heart can bring you first place,” Nave said.

“All the girls worked very hard and it showed in the routine,” added Dolly Nave-Kilpatrick, who also coaches the team.
Hundreds of cheerleaders from throughout Northern California competed in the all-day event at American Canyon High School.

The 20-member varsity team bested three other teams in the Large Varsity Show Cheer Novice Division. Varsity team captains are Sophia Crescibene, Megan McGrath, Abby Peach, Claire Uicker and Emma Weisberg. Other team members are Shayda Bakhtiari, Alex De Greef, Gisselle De Leon, Sophia Demartino, Kylee Early, Lizbeth Garcia, Daniella Ingargiola, Eliana Katelanis, Nami Kong, Natalie Moran, Alexis Nice, Lauren Pratt, Kiley Santella, Megan Santella and Kaziah Watson.
The 19-member junior varsity team competed in the JV Show Cheer Novice Division. The team is coached by Cathy Caliguire and Mia Pecek.
