Novato To Honor ‘Hometown Heroes’ At Virtual July 4 Parade
The Parade Committee has issued a call-out for videos and photos to be used to celebrate the holiday virtually.
NOVATO, CA — “Hometown Heroes” amid the pandemic will be the theme of this year's July 4 Parade, which will be held virtually for a second straight year.
The all-volunteer Novato 4th of July Parade Board of Directors voted unanimously to hold one of the Bay Area’s most storied American Independence Day celebrations virtually amid the continued uncertainty regarding the holding of large public gatherings.
The event typically attracts around 10,000 visitors.

Historians trace the annual celebration of American independence to the early 20th Century, and possibly as far back as the 1800s.
A festive video program featuring contributed clips from the community will be featured on Novato Community Television (NCTV), the parade’s Facebook page, and YouTube.

“Celebrating the history of our great nation will again be different this year since, once again, we won’t be able to come together in person,” Parade Committee Chair Pam Wycliffe said in a statement.
“Over the next few months, we will create a free, virtual event for the entire community to enjoy.”
The event will honor Novato’s Hometown Heroes, “so we encourage everyone to pay tribute to the hard-working local folks who have helped us survive this pandemic for over a year,” Wycliffe said.
The Parade Committee is encouraging residents to submit family-friendly video submissions or high-resolution photos
thanking an inspirational figure or group for COVID-19 community service and/or celebrating patriotism.
“The video can be a simple ‘Happy 4th of July, Novato!’” the Parade Committee said in a statement.
All videos and photos can be submitted via WeTransfer.com.
The deadline to submit a video or photos is June 1.
Submitted videos should be15 to 60 seconds, plus an additional 30 seconds for performances.
