Novato Mum On Cop’s Firing: Report

NOVATO, CA — More than two years after the firing of a Novato police officer, city officials have remained mum about the circumstances surrounding the cop’s dismissal, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

Then Police Chief and current City Manager Adam McGill fired the officer in February 2019 for “behavior during duty hours which was of such a nature that it caused discredit to the city” including “inexcusable neglect of duty” and insubordination according to the report.

The officer has not been identified, the report said.

Personnel records that would presumably shed some more light on the case are protected by state law and can’t be released by the city, McGill told the news outlet.

The city and the California Office of Administrative Hearings declined public records requests from the IJ seeking information about this case, citing a California Public Records Act exemption for police disciplinary records, the report said.
