Novato Planning Commission Greenlights Costco Gas Station: Report

NOVATO, CA — A proposed Costco gas station at the center of controversy amid the concerns of environmentalists got the backing of Novato’s Planning Commission, The Marin Independent Journal reports.
The Planning Commission approved the proposal Monday in a 5-2 vote according to the report.
The proposed 14-pump station will likely before the City Council for final approval March 9, the report said.

The project at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center could be completed by September according to the report, which cites a city staff report.

An organized group of environmentalists who oppose the project say the Costco gas station imperils local wetlands due to risk of fuel leaks and lead to an increase fossil fuel usage according to the report.

Opponents of the project held a protest against the proposed project, KRON 4 reports.
One protester held a sign up that read “Costco, stop fueling climate chaos.”
Proponents of the project say it would boost revenues, the report said.
