Novato's Jack Moffett Named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Moffett is among a pool of more than 15,000 finalists that will be considered for a 2021 National Merit Scholarship.

NOVATO, CA — Jack Moffett is in the running for one of the nation’s top academic honors for high school students.

The Novato High School senior has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

Moffett is among eight Marin County students who were honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation this year.

San Marin’s Izagani Aquino, Madison Cinelli, Evan Colenbrander, Derek Dela Cruz and Andersen Teoh, and Novato’s Emily G. Oblites and Timothy Simmons each received Commended Student honors.

Moffett was among 12 Marin County named semifinalists in September.

He is among a pool of more than 15,000 finalists that will be considered for a 2021 National Merit Scholarship.

The elite group were selected for demonstrated top performance and high potential for future academic accomplishments.

These 15,000 finalists comprise approximately 1 percent of the nation’s high school seniors.

In addition, the following students have been named a Commended Student by the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC):

“On behalf of myself and the Board of Trustees, we congratulate Jack and all our National Merit scholars,” Superintendent Kris Cosca said in a statement.

They have shown dedication and resilience, especially this past year, and are very proud and impressed with their accomplishments.”

Since its inception in 1955 the National Merit Scholarship Corporation has recognized the achievements of 3.3 million students and provided 449,000 scholarships worth over $1.8 billion, according to its website.
