SMART Cancels Weekend Train Service Due To Coronavirus​

There is currently no change to weekday train service, according to SMART officials.

NORTH BAY, CA — Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit has canceled weekend train service through April 5 amid the threat of the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

There is currently no change to weekday train service, according to SMART officials.

"SMART is monitoring this dynamic situation and will make adjustments as necessary, on a day-to-day basis," SMART officials said in a news release. "SMART is committed to providing an essential public transit service for the North Bay, with the health and safety of the community and SMART staff as our top priority."

SMART canceled weekend train service hours after seven of the nine Bay Area counties, including Marin County, ordered residents to shelter in place in an extraordinary attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus. The order will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and last until at least April 7.
