Coastal San Mateo Goes Under Wind Advisory

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for coastal San Mateo County and other parts of the Bay Area that are already at high risk for wildfires.

The advisory goes into effect Monday at noon and ends at 8 p.m.

Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, and gusts could top out at 55 mph according to the NWS.

Marin has enacted tough water restriction measures amid a historic drought.

Persistent warm, dry weather has lowered Marin Water's reservoir storage capacity to 52 percent —the lowest level in nearly 40 years.

Storage levels for this time of year are typically more than 90 percent.

Much of the West Coast, including nearly all of California, is experiencing drought conditions.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, as of June 1, 94.6 percent of California is in a severe drought, 74.3 percent of the state is in an extreme drought and 24 percent of the state is experiencing "exceptional drought" conditions.
