
Pacifica mayor Mary Ann Nihart was recently elected new Chair of the San Mateo County Council of Cities/City Selection Committee.
She was elected by the voting members (mayors or their proxy) of each of the 20 cities in San Mateo County. Â
Nihart previously served as Vice Chair and has also been elected as the San Mateo County representative to the Executive Board for the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG). Â

She officially takes on her new role as chair on Jan. 24 at the meeting that for the first time will be hosted by the County at the San Mateo County Historical Museum in Redwood City, where Supervisor and Board President David Pine will deliver a "State of the County" address. Â
The Council of Cities meets monthly to take care of issues and share concerns common to all of the Peninsula cities. Members also serve as the electing body for all county wide appointments that cities hold, such as the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, SamTrans Board of Directors, and the Association of Bay Areas Governments, to name a few. Â

The San Mateo County Council of Cities rotate hosting the meeting, which is usually accompanied by a dinner paid for by each council member. Â
