What an evening of glitter, glamor, and sophistication! The Palm Springs International Film Festival’s annual Film Awards Gala took place at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Thursday, Jan 3. Boasting a lineup of Academy Awards hopefuls in attendance, the fest’s signature showpiece event has the esteemed reputation for prognosticating Oscar nominees.
Hosted by Mary Hart and “Entertainment Tonight,” the red-carpet event kicked off with a cocktail hour at 5 p.m., where A-list celebrities, this year’s honorees, and guests beam with exuberance, just before the dinner awards show began.

Timothée Chalamet received the Spotlight Award for “Beautiful Boy,” presented by Laura Dern.

Rami Malek received the Breakthrough Performance Award for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” presented by his “Mr. Robot” co-star, Christian Slater.

Regina King received the Chairman’s Award for “If Beale Street Could Talk,” presented by the film’s director Barry Jenkins.

Emily Blunt, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and Joel Dawson accepted the Ensemble Performance Award on behalf of the cast of “Mary Poppins Returns,” presented by the film’s director Rob Marshall.

Alfonso Cuarón received the Sonny Bono Visionary Award for “Roma,” presented by Gary Oldman, whom he directed in "Harry Potter" and the "Prisoner of Azkaban."

Melissa McCarthy received the Spotlight Award for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” presented by her film co-star Richard E. Grant.

Bradley Cooper received “Director of the Year,” for “A Star Is Born,” presented by his film co-star co-star, Sam Elliott.

Olivia Colman received the Palm Desert Achievement Award, Actress, presented by her "The Favourite" co-star Emma Stone.

Spike Lee received the Career Achievement Award, presented by the stars of “BlacKkKlansman,” John David Washington and Adam Driver.

The cast and crew of “Green Book” received the Vanguard Award, with Mahershala Ali, Viggo Mortensen, Linda Cardellini, director Peter Farrelly, Brian Currie, Kwame Parker, and Nick Vallelonga accepting, presented by Jim Carrey.

Glenn Close received the Icon Award, presented by her co-star from “The Paper,” Michael Keaton.

The film festival’s Opening Night took place Jan 4 with the screening of “All is True,” starring Kenneth Branagh, who also directed the film, which is a look at William Shakepeare’s final days. On Jan 13, the film festival will conclude with the screening of Bruce Beresford’s “Ladies in Black,” a film about the glory days of elegant department stores.
Among the 223 titles that will be screened from Jan 4 thru Jan 13 include 30 of the most popular films in the festival’s history.
