Car Crash into Utility Pole Knocks Out Power to 2,500: Edison

A car slammed into a utility pole in Desert Hot Springs early Sunday and caused a power outage that initially affected 2,500 homes and businesses, a Southern California Edison spokeswoman said.

SCE officials received a call at 2:37 a.m. Dec. 22 about the outage, and sent repairmen to Camino Aventura, east of Palm Drive where the crash happened, spokeswoman Lois Pitter Bruce said.

Work crews were replacing the damaged pole and 518 accounts were left without power by midday, Bruce said. An estimated time of when all power would be restored was not immediately known, she said.
