Coroner IDs Man Found Dead In Coachella Valley Canal

THERMAL, CA — A man found dead this week in a Coachella Valley canal has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau as a Coachella resident.

The body of Erasmo Gonzales Barrios, 52, was discovered Monday near Airport Boulevard, east of Buchanan Street, in Thermal, according to the coroner. The location abuts open desert space.

The date and time of his death remain under investigation by the sheriff's department.

Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro told City News Service on Tuesday that investigators do not suspect foul play, but "rather an accident."
