CV Rescue Mission to Build New Resale Boutique

INDIO (Calif) — The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is proud to announce that Southwest Community Church in Indian Wells is investing in the Mission’s dream of expansion. With a generous gift of $100,000, the church and their congregation have help new Resale Boutique come closer to realization.

”Our deepest and most sincere appreciation goes out to everyone at Southwest Community Church. Together we celebrate Romans 4:17: ‘God creates new things out of nothing,’” said CVRM Executive Director Darla Burkett.

Brad Kinney, Southwest Church’s Pastor of Advancement, said, "We are honored and humbled to partner with the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. Their commitment in demonstrating compassion aligns with our continual vision of making Jesus 'famous' in the Coachella Valley and beyond. Through this partnership, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus, which are so needed in our world right now.”

Construction of the new Resale Boutique will take place on an existing vacant lot adjacent to the current Indio CVRM campus, and is expected to be completed in 2021. The project will consist of a 5,000 sq. ft. single-story building and parking, as well as sidewalk and curb improvements as prescribed by local planning authorities. The building house a warehouse for receiving and sorting of donated goods, a dedicated recycling processing area, sales floor, check-out counter area, employee break area, restrooms, and offices.

Primarily used as a job-training center for CVRM clients to receive valuable job skills used to gain employment in the Coachella Valley, the new Resale Boutique will also sell quality gently used goods to the local community at reasonable prices. During the client's participation in this training model, training occurs in a wide variety of skills, and program participants are empowered to develop and improve those skills as they progress through the program with the client securing employment. Client program participants typically work in this setting 20 to 30 hours a week, depending on other Mission Program obligations, such as Life Skills, GED education classes, and counseling.

When completed, this new store and the present Coachella Resale Boutique location will share an inventory of goods donated by the community to double the client training capacity.

Since 1971, the CVRM has strived to meet the ever-growing needs of individuals, who for a variety of reasons have found themselves without the necessities of life. A dedicated staff and volunteers serve more than 300,000 hot meals annually and provide 100,000 bed nights of safe shelter to men, women, and children. Food, clothing, and showers are provided for those who do not shelter at the Mission. More information on how to help support the Rescue Mission, and their programs, can be found at www.cvrm.org.
