Day Of The Dead Celebration Planned In Palm Desert
The event is being hosted by the Palm Springs Art Museum.

From Cord Media: Palm Springs Art Museum is hosting its popular, free Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) celebration on Sunday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Palm Springs Art Museum, and Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert, The Galen and Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden is hosting its celebration on Friday, November 3, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission to both events is free.
On Sunday, October 29, the public is invited to see Palm Springs Art Museum come alive with the spirit and traditions of Day of the Dead. Fun for the entire family, activities include making artistic masks, sugar skulls, papel picado, paper marigolds, among others. A welcome ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with a performance by Danza Azteca Citlaltonac.

In addition, attendees will enjoy music, dance and rituals as the Museum celebrates the spirit of traditions of Day of the Dead. College of the Desert Ballet Folkorico Club “Sabor a mi Tierra” performs from noon to 1 p.m. and again at 3:15 p.m., with Conjunto Tenocelomeh taking the floor at 1:45 p.m.

Community based altars, museum tours, film, food trucks and other activities also will be part of this significant cultural celebration that reflects on the richness of Latino history and culture while honoring those who have passed away.
On November 3, as part of its Galen First Friday events, Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert invites families to celebrate Day of the Dead by participating in arts and crafts, viewing an altar installation by St. Theresa’s Spanish Club, and taking a docent guided tour of the Museum at 4 p.m.Following the tour will be a performance by a Ballet Folklorico “Sabor a mi Tierra” performance, a visiting artist discussion at 6 p.m., and a live performance by David Macias Music in the Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden at 7 p.m.

Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday that inspires individuals, family, friends and community to celebrate life by reflecting on history and culture through the act of honoring those who have passed away. Day of the Dead education programs are made possible by Wells Fargo.
