Family YMCA of the Desert’s Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge Returns

The three events are designed for participants of all skill levels, from recreational enthusiasts to advanced athletes.

From YMCA of the Desert: Family YMCA of the Desert’s 4th Annual Y Be Fit Palm Desert Challenge returns on Sunday, October 1, giving runners, walkers, and tri-athletes the opportunity to enjoy a little friendly competition while exercising and raising money for YMCA of the Desert’s after-school programs, summer camps, leadership trainings, and other youth programming serving over 3,800 Coachella Valley children. The three events are designed for participants of all skill levels, from recreational enthusiasts to advanced athletes, beginning and ending at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park, with the running and biking portions taking place on routes through the City of Palm Desert.

Y Be Fit PD Challenge features a Reverse Mini-Triathlon consisting of a 5K run, a 10-mile bike ride, and a 300-meter swim at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center. Participants can compete solo or as a three-person team, with each team member completing one leg of the race. The Palm Desert Aquatic Center (PDAC) is offering to match up competitors wishing to compete in one leg of the Reverse Mini-Tri with teammates for the other legs of the event. For assistance finding a Reverse Mini-Tri team, contact PDAC (www.pdpool.com). The 5K Walk/Run and 1K Color Run offer families, friends and individuals a fun, and easier, alternative to the Reverse Mini-Tri.

Following the finish of the Reverse Mini-Triathlon, a Health and Wellness Fair will feature vendor and information booths, entertainment, and activities for all ages. In addition to event participants, the public is also invited to attend the fair from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m.

The following Early Bird registration fees are available until August 31:
  • 1K Color Run* $10
  • 5K Run/Walk $30
  • Reverse Mini-Triathlon $40
  • Reverse Mini-Relay $70
*Active YMCA Members, and their immediate family members, receive $5.00 discount off the 1K Color Run, until Sept 29.

Registered participants have begun training, including swimming laps at Palm Desert Aquatic Center in preparation for the Reverse Mini-Triathlon, where the swim portions will take place during the event. For additional information on lap swimming visit www.pdpool.com.

This fundraiser benefits Family YMCA of the Desert supporting youth programs, and is sponsored by the City of Palm Desert, Klein/Clark Sports, Palm Desert Aquatic Center, FG Creative, Burrtec, First Bank, and Prime Time International. Event sponsorships and booths at the Health and Wellness Fair are still available. Contact Terri Bona at YMCA of the Desert for sponsorship opportunities (terribona@desertymca.org).
