Gas Main Repaired, Monterey Re-Opened

A closed section of Monterey Avenue was re-opened Wednesday after crews completed the repair of a natural gas leak in Palm Desert near the Rancho Mirage city limits.

The 3-inch plastic gas main broke at Magnesia Falls Drive and Monterey Avenue about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, and someone reported the smell of gas, said Javier Mendoza of the Southern California Gas Company.

Nearby residents were asked to stay inside, and nearby streets were closed were closed as a precaution, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The repairs were completed at 2:30 a.m. today, said Gas Company spokeswoman Trisha Muse.
