Driver Sought In Deadly Palm Springs Hit-And-Run

A 2005 or 2006 Nissan Altima, possibly silver in color, with fresh damage to its hood, windshield and passenger side, is the suspect car.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A nearly half-mile stretch of East Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, between Golf Club and Broadmoor drives, reopened after a nearly six-hour full closure Friday due to an early morning pedestrian fatality that police believe was a hit-and-run.

John Grizzell Jr., 28, of Palm Springs was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 4 a.m., according to the coroner's bureau.

Palm Springs police are still searching for the alleged hit-and-run driver who was believed to be behind the wheel of a 2005 or 2006 Nissan Altima, possibly silver in color, with fresh damage to its hood, windshield and passenger side.

The East Palm Canyon Drive reopened at 10:19 a.m., the police department posted on Twitter. Caltrans reported all southbound and eastbound lanes were closed due to the investigation.
