Hiker Suffers Medical Emergency On 'Bump And Grind'

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — Firefighters on the ground were able to reach a hiker who suffered a medical emergency Sunday on the Bump and Grind trail near Rancho Mirage, foregoing the need for a rescue helicopter that had been en route.
The unspecified medical emergency was reported just before 11 a.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
A rescue helicopter was initially deployed to the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, where the hiker was stranded, but was called back when firefighters on the ground reached the hiker, fire officials said.
