La Quinta Theft Lands 2 In Jail, Police Say

The duo is accused of stealing more than $1,100 worth of merchandise from a La Quinta retail store.

LA QUINTA, CA — A 26-year-old man was in custody Tuesday after he was arrested along with an accomplice on suspicion of stealing $1,173 worth of merchandise from a La Quinta retail store.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a grand theft on Saturday in the 78800 block of Highway 111, according to Sgt. David Aldrich.

Through the investigation, deputies found that a man and woman stole the merchandise and fled in a 2017 Lexus, which authorities determined was a "loaner vehicle," the department said.

The investigation led authorities to the 78300 block of Terra Cotta Court in La Quinta, where Omar Torres and Gabrielle Boggs, 26, both of La Quinta, were arrested.

Both were booked at the Indio jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and organized theft of a retail store of more than $950 worse of merchandise.

Torres was transferred to the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning where he is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. Boggs made bail on Monday.
