“We are very excited to launch this program during Autism Awareness Month and ensure that everyone has a wonderfully wild time at The Living Desert,” said Allen Monroe, President/CEO of The Living Desert. “We are continually striving to deliver a welcoming and inclusive experience, and our partnership with KultureCity enables us to provide a safe, comfortable environment for those with sensory challenges to enjoy and learn about animals and wildlife conservation.”

The KultureCity certification process included training for The Living Desert’s staff on how to recognize guests with sensory needs and how to handle a sensory overload situation. Sensory bags, equipped with noise-cancelling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads will be available to any guest who may feel overwhelmed by the environment. In addition, special maps and signage will identify “Headphone Zones,” which are areas of high volume, and “Quiet Areas” perfect for taking a break.
