New City Manager Tapped For Indio

INDIO, CA — The Indio City Council is poised to appoint a new city manager, it was announced Friday.

Council members are scheduled to vote on Bryan Montgomery’s appointment and employment agreement Wednesday.

The decision concludes a nationwide executive recruitment search conducted by Ralph Andersen & Associates that resulted in attracting 58 qualified applicants, according to Friday's announcement. The search followed the retirement of Indio City Manager Mark Scott in August.

Montgomery comes to Indio with over 28 years of local government experience, currently serving as Oakley City Manager for the last 15 years. Oakley is a San Francisco Bay Area suburb.

Previously, Montgomery was city manager of Mesquite, Nevada, for seven years.

“We look forward to introducing Bryan Montgomery to the City of Indio community at our next Council meeting on April 21st," Indio Mayor Elaine Holmes said in a released statement.

Upon approval of his agreement, Montgomery’s employment with the city will begin May 13.

The agenda packet for Wednesday's City Council meeting will be available here by end of day Friday.

According to the city of Indio, Montgomery's resume includes several achievements. During his tenure in Oakley, he implemented a comprehensive economic development plan, including a downtown revitalization program. He was also instrumental in the redevelopment of a former Dupont chemical plant, which now serves as a 150+ acre logistics center with over 2 million square feet of buildings, including an Amazon Hub and Fulfillment Center, which opened in late 2020, Indio city officials said.

While in Mesquite, Montgomery managed several major capital projects, including a new City Hall, senior center, recreation center, arts center, and a city-owned industrial park.

Montgomery is an adjunct professor at San Francisco State University, speaks Spanish and periodically lectures in Latin America for the International City/County Management Association, Indio city officials said.

Montgomery holds a bachelor's degree in international government relations and a master's degree in public administration — both from Brigham Young University.
