Traffic Delays Expected In Palm Desert As Road Work Begins

Monterey Avenue and Alessandro Alley are undergoing construction work.

PALM DESERT, CA — Construction work that began Monday on two Palm Desert roadways — Monterey Avenue and Alessandro Alley — means travel delays for drivers.

Monterey Avenue is reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately one mile between Gran Via (the Whitewater Channel Bridge) and Country Club Drive. The lane closures will continue for several months between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., according to the city.

The work is part of a joint project to repave the Monterey Avenue roadway by the cities of Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage.

Delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Portola Avenue.

Construction work is also taking place Monday on Alessandro Alley between San Marco Avenue and Las Palmas Avenue. The work will continue into November, according to the city.

Utility relocation, asphalt reconstruction, irrigation, landscape planting, and more is scheduled to occur between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Delays and difficulty accessing portions of the street are expected.
