Posted 5 p.m. Construction workers struck a gas line at an apartment complex Friday afternoon in Palm Desert, and some residents were ordered to "shelter in place" while utility crews tried to fix the leak, a Cal Fire spokesman said.
The incident was reported at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 27 in the 1600 block of Via San Martino, just south of Country Club Drive, Mark Annas of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.
Two engine companies responded and found workers had struck a two-inch diameter gas pipe during "new construction," Annas said just before 4 p.m. "Residents in nearby units are sheltering-in-place while the Gas Company mitigates the incident."
Annas said the Southern California Edison responded along with the Southern California Gas Company.
